Folsom Prison Experience is a touring production featuring the music of Johnny Cash's legendary 1968 performance at the prison. Although the music is the centerpeice of the show, it is also supported by a comedic group of actors performing the roles of prison guards, the warden, and country music deejay Hugh Cherry there to record the event on behalf of Columbia Records. Actors and musicians also perform the roles and songs of June Carter, Merl Haggard, The Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins and a backing band.

COOL CITY JAZZ BAND

First time at the Tobias Theatre for a show. Locally known as "The Toby," this theatre is a small venue located inside the Indianapolis Museum of Art, now known as Newfields. The venue seats 530 and is acoustically perfect for small shows. This is likely one of the nicest and cleanest venues in the midwest. Hopefully more shows will be booked here.

The evening is billed: Suzanne Vega - Old Songs, New Songs and Other Songs and so it was. Plenty of old songs mixed with new compositions and an impressive cover of the Lou Reed classic, Walk On The Wild Side.

Suzanne Vega was accompanied by long time collaborator and guitarist Gerry Leonard. Gerry has an impressive resume himself, having played with David Bowie, Duncan Sheik, Laurie Anderson, Rufus Wainwright as well as work on many soundtracks. Playing cello on the ocassional song was Stephanie Winters, herself accomplished as both a cellist and nervous system coach.

SUZANNE VEGA

Battle Creek Michigan and Firekeepers Casino is the setting for tonight's show featuring Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. The Event Center, which holds about 2,000 was very nearly sold out at show time. This is the first show of the current tour with minor sound difficulties at the very start of the show. These were quickly resolved and fans were treated to a career spanning set list filled with popular covers and originals from Jett's catalog. The Blackhearts today feature Dougie Needles (guitar), Michael McDermott (drums) and Hal Selzer (bass), They have been with Jett for some time and execute well, however not the original Blackhearts.
