This was the much anticipated, then much maligned UNION tour, which put two versions of YES together. It was fairly apparent the two camps didnt like one another much. Lots of egos.

First there was the 90125/Big Generator version of YES which was anchored around YES founding member, Chris Squire. That version also called in another founding member, Jon Anderson, along with Tony Kaye, Alan White and South African guitar sensation, Trevor Rabin.

The other camp included founding YES drummer Bill Bruford, along with the longest tenured guitarist in YES history, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman and for good measure Jon Anderson performed with this line-up as well.

There were supposedly legal battles over the name YES and which members could use it, the usual rock n roll legalities when things get too big. To resolve the problem, each camp contributed half of an album,s worth of music to be assembled together and called Union. It was more a division. Such could be seen and heard during the concert. Needless to say it did not last.

During the show, a guy would leave the stage if another guy was on the stage; there was obvious friction and band mates didnt like each other.

Following the success of Graceland and use of South African musicians who culturally flavored the record, Paul Simon's next venture followed a similar approach, but explored new musical territories with musicians from South America, where he found Latin American and Afron-Brazilian musical themes. Such was the nature of this tour, which featured a large ensemble of South American musicians. Truly a one of a kind concert toiur and I'm glad that I went.

The show featured many tracks from both Graceland and Rhythm of the Saints, but also Paul Simon solo and Simon/Garfunkel greats.

Excellent Halloween night show. I think I pissed my ex-wife off by going to this show last minute, instead of staying home to hand out treats to the neighborhood kiddies, but hell, RUSH was in town on their Roll The Bones Tour. I went with a friend and we didnt sit in our assigned seats, instead we went up the Market Square Garden bar and watched the show from their. This is the one and only time I had ever done this. It is indeed the farthest point away from the stage and you sit behind glass or plexiglass, so the feeling is somewhat disconnected from the energy of the show. Still, sometimes you have to try things just once.

Eric Johnson was great. RUSH was even better.
