This was the much anticipated, then much maligned UNION tour, which put two versions of YES together. It was fairly apparent the two camps didnt like one another much. Lots of egos.
First there was the 90125/Big Generator version of YES which was anchored around YES founding member, Chris Squire. That version also called in another founding member, Jon Anderson, along with Tony Kaye, Alan White and South African guitar sensation, Trevor Rabin.
The other camp included founding YES drummer Bill Bruford, along with the longest tenured guitarist in YES history, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman and for good measure Jon Anderson performed with this line-up as well.
There were supposedly legal battles over the name YES and which members could use it, the usual rock n roll legalities when things get too big. To resolve the problem, each camp contributed half of an album,s worth of music to be assembled together and called Union. It was more a division. Such could be seen and heard during the concert. Needless to say it did not last.
During the show, a guy would leave the stage if another guy was on the stage; there was obvious friction and band mates didnt like each other.
