Stepping out of the drama filled split with Van Halen, Sammy Hagar is back to performing as a solo artists with a new band The Waboritas. His first true solo record since the joining Van Halen, Marching To Mars finds the Red Rocker with some of best and most inspired music to date. The record is filled with guest appearances, featuring funk bassist Bootsy Collins, Mickey Hart from the Grateful Dead, Huey Lewis, slide guitar great Roy Rogers, Slash and others.
The touring band features long time drummer and friend David Lauser, who played with Hagar during is pre-Van Halen solo career. The band also includes former Bus Boys guitarist, Victor Johnson and Mona Gnader on bass.
This clearly marks a new direction for Sammy Hagar and one that fits him well, as evidenced by the title track of the new album...Here we go marching to Mars...Mars, not so coincidentally the god of war. There is an evident break-up that Hagar is trying to put behind him with Little White Lies. Salvation on Sand Hill maybe one of the strongest and most meaningful songs of Hagar's career.
The concert set list was a solid mixture of Hagar's past, including Montrose and solo days, Van Halen and post Van Halen material. A little something for everyone. Outstanding show!
