Mark Gasper Presents P.A.K.T. at The Irving Theatre featuring the combined talents of Percy Jones (Brand X), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Kenny Gohowski and Tim Motzer
P.A.K.T. music is improvisational, ethereal, mathematic, cinematic, progressive, not mainstream, something reminescent at times of Pink Floyd pre Dark Side of The Moon. About 80 fans on hand and plenty of room to spread out in the old Irving Theatre. The music wasn't for everyone as it was evident a few people left after about 40 minutes. However for the rest of us, the show was a real workshop of talent.
Alex Skolnick and Tim Motzer both hung around after the show talking with fans.
Thank you Mark Gasper Presents for bringing progressive music to Indianapolis!

It must be mentioned the venue management is terrible and has been so for some time. This night however was a showcase on how NOT to handle a concert production. Ruoff and Live Nation demonstrated zero ability to handle and manage a crowd of this size, leaving many ticket holders outside waiting to get through the gate at show time. Foremost in this problem was the fact that the parking lots opened at 12:00 but venue gates did not open until 5:30, allowing only 90 minutes before showtime to handle ticket validation and security for nearly 25,000 fans. Thats just not enough time. In addition, Ruoff utilized a self-scan process for each fan to scan their mobile ticket but the machines were finicky and caused many delays while Ruoff gate employees stood and watched fans trying to figure out the scanners. This same scenario can be witness at your local grocery store when customers attempt to scan an item that isnt programmed in the system. Trash recipticles were overflowing even before showtime and got worse as the evening went on. We paid for an $80 parking upgrade, only to be told at 4:00 that the lots were full and we would have to drive to another lot behind the venue. After protest and showing the upgrade, we were finally granted access to the front lot where it was clear that plenty of parking was indeed still available and the premier parking was far from full. Frankly I have no desire to ever see another show at this venue. They do not care about their fans (customers) and seem only concerned with pleasing their advertisers (investors). I have not been to any other concert venue in North America that is routinely managed so poorly. The day after the show, I received a survey but what seemed like interest in the customer experience quickly turned into a focus on how likely I would be to patronize their advertisers.

Great evening in Noblesville, IN for an outdoor show. Seemed like ticket sales were a bit slow but a medium sized crowd on hand. Interesting format with Jefferson Starship getting things started. This Jefferson Starship is led by alumni David Freiberg and band and should not is not be confused with Starship featuring alumni MIckey Thomas. Solid performnce of hits from Freiberg and company. Next up with a longer set was the 40th Anniversary Tour of Night Ranger and they sounded great as well. Not only did they deliver on NR hits but also tossed in a couple of Damn Yankees classics. Brett Michaels' show included guest singers Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray and Steve Augeri, a former singer of Journey between Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda. Brett Michaels delivered plenty of covers and Poison hits with summertime Sugar Ray and Journey classics from McGrath and Augeri respectively. Finally the full enchilada encore Sweet Home Alabama featuring a full stage of performers including Michaels, Augeri, McGrath, Night Ranger and Jefferson Starship.

The last pleasant night expected for at least a week was spent with Jethro Tull on their Seven Decades Tour, which oddly does not feature a lot of familiar radio hits, but rather selections from the seven decades from which Ian Anderson and Tull have been active. Further, it seemed that Anderson was the only original member on stage.
The chosen setlist format for the toru took the listener on a musical journey throughout the Jethro Tull catalog and many if not most fans in attendence probably appreciated the deeper cuts less often performed selections. However fo rthe casual fan, the show lacked recognizable Jethro Tull classics, like Bungle in The Jungle, Crosseyed Mary, Skating Away, etc.
While the music was performed with precision and the sound was good, guitar passages sounded newer with modern guitar electronics - lacking the warmth once known to these songs.
Finally, the tour could have included a support act. With the music business landscape completely changed from the days when Jethero Tull enjoyed greatest success, other bands could really benefit from an opportunity to open the show.
JETHRO TULL SET ONE:
Nothing Is Easy
We Used to Know
Heavy Horses
Sweet Dream
Hunt by Numbers
Holly Herald
Hammer on Hammer
Mine Is the Mountain
Bourrée in E minor (Johann Sebastian Bach cover)
JETHRO TULL SET TWO:
Farm on the Freeway
The Navigators
Pavane in F-Sharp Minor (Gabriel Fauré cover)
The Zealot Gene
Dark Ages
Aqualung
ENCORE:
Locomotive Breath
