THE SHERWOOD COUNTRY CLUB (permanently closed)
Indianapolis, Indiana
Opened in 1967
In 1967, the Sherwood Country Club opened as an under 21 club. It hosted many popular groups in the 1970s such as REO, Black Sabbath, Joe Walsh, and others. The Sherwood often hosted professional boxing as well. In the late 1980s, The Sherwood had fallen on tougher times. The building and property had not been properly cared for. However it again served as a small concert venue, featuring acts like former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley, Lita Ford, WASP, Metallica, Husker Du, Soul Asylum and White Lion. Unfortunately the building no longer remains. It is reported that it caught fire in the early 1990s.
