PATIO (No longer a music venue)
6308 Guilford Street
Indianapolis, Indiana
Patio or "the" Patio as many referred to it, was a long time staple of the Broad Ripple music scene. Opening in 1950 as The Terrace Lounge, the bar/venue later became Lazas Cocktail Lounge in 1954. A year later, it became The Pink Squirrel (still one of my all time favorite names). That lasted about five years, before becoming The Doris. By 1962, it became Jim Moore's Patio Bar. In 1977, The Patio became the club that I remember, featuring a bohemian mix of dance club and live music. The Patio showcased local bands such as Henry Lee Summer, Rods and Cones, The Oliver Syndrome, Hopscotch Army and many others too numerous to mention. The club also occasionally featured national recording artists before closing in 2005. Today it is a local nightspot known as Lava.
