Always a high quality show, Larry Carlton performed a rare show at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis. The IRB is one of the best venues to see a small show inIndianapolis with fabulaous acoustics in an architecturally beautiful building.

After the show, I asked a security guard a couple of questions about the building itself. Through conversation he told me there was going to be an after show party with afew guests and wanted to know we wanted to attend. Of course we did! Mr Carlton was a genuinely good natured fellow. We echanged a few words about his past work with Steely Dan and through this conversation, he told me that he is credited on Stelly Dans Gaucho record, but that his solo was not the one used.

Supporting the show was local jazz guitarist Charlie Smith. Charlie died too soon, Feb 8, 2008.

The Farewell Tour for KISS or so it was supposed to be. Certainly the farewell tour for all four originals in costume. This time around the Farewell Tour consisted of the support package of both Ted Nugent and Skid Row (without Sebastian Bach). The shows were OK but very trite. First up, Skid Row was disappointing with Sebastian Bach. Ted NUgent spent a fair amount of time politicizing his set against Bill Clinton and Janet Reno. KISS was so-so. In my mind, the KISS show is an arena event. It just isnt suited for the outdoor shed venues. Clearly the band was tired of performing together. Tired of each other.

The evening was wet. It had rained during the day. The lawn was slick and not very appealing for an outdoor show.

What an incredible night fo rthis show. It was exceptionally nice outside and there was a full moon that rose over the back fence of the venue behind the lawn. This made for a spectacular backdrop to Sting's Moon Over Bourbon Street. Plenty of great Sting music from all points of his career including the Police.

Tracy Chapman was exceptional as well, providing an ample support to the marquee.

The Farewell Tour for KISS or so it was supposed to be...again. Last time the band came through town on the Farewell Tour, they played Noblesville technically. So why not play downtown Indianapolis? The Farewell Tour consisted of the support package of both Ted Nugent and Skid Row (again without Sebastian Bach). This time Ted Nugent was particularly fired up about Janet Reno. I like Ted Nugent's music. I do. But it's not fun with all the politics. I use music to escape all that crap. Because the show was in an arena, the show seemed to come together much better than the previous show in Noblesville.

Following the Farewell Tour, KISS would soldier on in some form or fashion. Sometimes it was Gene, Ace, Paul and Eric Singer in the Catman make-up. Sometimes no Ace and Tommy Thayer was the Spaceman. Eventually there was no Peter Criss and no Ace Frehley and KISS became Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer.

I drove into Chicago a little early the day of the concert. November can be pretty cold downtown. Anyway, I stopped by the theater to get my bearings and noticed the TTN camera trucks outside. Turns out the whole show, both of two sold out nights in fact, were being filmed for a live DVD. The DVD turned out to be Sammy Hagar & The Waboritas Birthday Bash. What a bash it was! The tequila was flowing at the concession stands, everybody was happy. You wanna see a great show? Check out the DVD, it's all there! I had an awesome seat for the show, the first royalty box on the left.
