This was a very unique event, with Todd Snider actually promoting his new book, instead of a concert tour. The format was very small and intimate at the Radio Radio. Snider read excerpts from the book, took questions from the audience as well as song requests, yes he actually played a few songs as well. Also unique was that fact that Todd stuck around after the show and signed a few autographs out behind the venue. Very cool evening.

Back in 1990, I was blown away by a record called Goodbye Jumbo. There were so many influences that came together and this was one of those 1 in 1000 records that just clicks on every level. It stands up to time even today. Although World Party may have gone through some line-up changes, it is still anchored by Karl Wallinger. Having the chance to see a full electric set with a band in a small venue was a real treat.

I usually try to catch the Days of the Dead when it features rock stars, as was the case here. Stephen Pearcy from RATT, along with Cherie Currie from the Runaways and the cover model from the first RATT record, Tawney Kitaen was also on hand. While there were no live performances, it was a great chance to meet the stars from horror movies and a few rock stars.

Great show by the Quireboys, however a weird venue, which was a barbecue restaurant, serving food throughout the show. Still the 'boys put on one hell of a show.

Hoosier legend Otis Gibbs played a sold out show at the Hi Fi and its just amazing what a great songwriter he has become. His lyrics are so insightful, thoughtful and sympathetic all at once. This show went particularly well, except for a loud drunk woman in the back who was eventually thrown out. When her man returned for the restroom and found out his old lady had been tossed, he went outside looking for a fight. Neither were allowed back in. Great evening.

Acoustic Friday Night at Hat Tricks in Pekin, IL featuring Roxy Blue and I was very impressed with that set. The Triple Axe Attack of original guitarists from Leatherwolf did not quite live up to expectation, Russ Dwarf of Killer Dwarfs, Jonathan Pagano from Novella and Shawn Pelata from Line of Fire. The nights headliner was E'NUFF Z'NUFF.

Saturday saw the crowd increase in size throughout the day, and why not? Michael Hannon was in da house with American Dog to rock the afternoon. Steve Rachelle with TUFF put on a great show. Babylon A.D. and Black N Blue both sounded as good as ever. But wait, just when things are going well, the bar runs out of High Life! Then things really fell apart. No beer and a lousy Danger Danger performance. No photos. In a bar. Really?

Sunday brought a lighter crowd, but still no High Life. Had to switch to Miller Lite. David Reece put on a good show, but then Phil Lewis acoustic was lousy and out of tune. Lillian Axe just isn't Lillian Axe anymore. And the festival closes with whatcha see is whatcha get...Faster Pussycat.

All in all a great time. Band members hung out with fans at the venue bar and at the hotel bar.

A crisp December evening and a small warm jazz club was a perfect setting for Larry Carlton for two shows in Indianapolis at the Jazz Kitchen. The evening found a very relaxed Carlton, comfortable as ever with the surroundings. He acted as though we were all old friends and sprinkled in hints of Holiday music, not enough to make it a holiday show, but just enough to remind the audience that it was Christmas time.
