This was during the long cold war among the former members of the Eagles, so it was encouraging to see two of them join forces and go out on the road. In fact, who could have predicted at the time that the egos would finally die down enough for a full Eagles reunion several years later?

Be that as it may, this looked likethe best and brightest opportunity to see anything close to The Eagles in a long time. So it was great to hear some of those classics mixed into the set.

This was kind of an odd show in that it wasnt real clear who was headlining or if this was to be a co-headline show. The tshirts as I recall were Joe Walsh shirts on the front with Party of 2 on the back where both Frey and Walshs names were mentioned together.

But basically they had a full band and traded songs. I recall at one point during a Glenn Frey song, Joe laid down on the stage to pass the time. They took a break midway through and as they were leaving the stage, Joe spoke into the mic, "I gotta take a poop."

Imagine two of the greatest arena rock bands to come out of California on the same stage. Well, sort of. Eddie Van Halen and company, fronted by Sammy Hagar, and the throat of Motley Crue, Vince Neil, supported by a guitar great in his own right, Steve Stevens. What a great night for Rock N Roll.

A rather unseasonably cold evening for an outdoor show, but this was the first that Steely Dan had toured in avery long time and I wasnt about to miss it.

This was a good show. Not a great show. Clearly missing from the classic Steely Dan sound on such hits as Royal Scam, Aja, Black Friday etc was the guitar work of Larry Carlton. This was also the first that I noticed Donald Fagen playing the melodica, an annoying little instrument that sounds something like harmonica, but not exactly. I really dont care for it and it's something Fagen went on to use frequently after this tour. It changed the sound of classic Steely Dan.
