The song "When You're High" was peformed 3 times throughout the two set show, because the band was shooting a music video. Two sets clocked in at about 1 hour each. Why Store hit their hayday back in 1993 with their self produced debut, Welcome to the Why Store CD. The band went on to sign with MCA, with their first label debut to follow in 1996. The band hit its stride in similar timing as fellow Indiana rockers Blind Melon. Commercial success of band leader and Muncie native, Chris Shaffer could somehow be measured, in Hoosier terms, somewhere between Gary Jeffries and John Mellencamp.

The last time I saw The Why Store was actually 1996 at the outdoor X103 X-Fest in Noblesville, IN.
I lost touch with most of their music over time, however this was agreat evening and a chance to get out on a cold night hand hear live music

Stopped for dinner, so we missed the God Bombs entirely. We did see Chelsea Wolfe and her show was dark, somewhat ethereal, but very impressive. Ministry...havent seen them live before, but they were a band my wife and friends used to dance to at clubs in the late 80's and early 90's. The vast majority of the show was a hate fueled denouncement, demonstrating no tolerance for the likes of Donald Trump, capitalism, conservatism, etc. Almost hypnotic video played during every song, each with its own bold text message, as if the two inflatable chickens with neo-nazi emblems and bufant hair were not enough to express the singular, yet simple, point of view. Truthfully, I was pissed off. Why? Because I disagree with the political messaging? No. Because I paid for two tickets to ESCAPE the news of the day for a couple of hours, not to be assaulted and beat over the head with it. This was like a CNN/MSNBC nightmare. The audience for its part lapped the messaging up like ant-human Pelosibots. Its really not challenging or difficult to sell a message to like-minded people. Yet, there it was. So finally, last twenty minutes of the show, the songs we came to hear.

I only attended day 1 of a 2 day event and honestly, by the end of that I was kind of over it. I have not attended a KISS EXPO for the past several years, however I attended the expos frequently in the past, Marquee guests required a different type of ticket to get in the autograph lines early and that usually came at a premium ticket cost. Convenience, I get it. Also, supplemental guests did not charge for autographs, particularly if you purchased a photo or a CD from them. This year was more like the Days of The Dead Horror Convention, where one price gets you in the door, but each guests sets his or her own prices for autographs and pictures. In other words, an afternoon of autographs can easily rival a car or mortgage payment.

Some guests did not charge for autographs this year and were delighted to sign for fans and take pictures with them. They obviously got it. They understand you dont screw your fan base and get away with it, unless your last name is Simmons.

Other guests however did charge. For example, Bob and Bruce Kulick have been guests at this expo many times before and never charged for autographs. This year, from Bob Kulick's table, I bought one of the Rock Candy records re-issues of a band called Balance, featuring Bob Kulick. I was happy that he had them for sale and I paid the $20 asking price. I asked him to please also sign another cd cover that I brought from home and he looked at me and says "Ten bucks." I said yeah I know I just gave you $20 for the Balance cd. He said yes but if I sign your item too, I have to charge an additional $10. Really Bob? That's ok, I can live without that autograph. Nevermind. I thought I supported the artists when I bought their music in the first place. Record producer, Michael James Jackson, charging $20 to sign your item also. Fairly certain I can live without that autograph as well.

Great to see some old faces though, like Tod Howarth from Frehley's Comet - he was happy to sign my 707 Megaforce cd by the way at no charge. Also Karl Cochran recovering from health related issues and happy to meet with fans. The highlight for me was to see Lita Ford, very graciously meeting fans and talking for hours on end.

Really the price of the ticket was suitable for the live performances, which included Ace Frehley performing each night of the two day expo, alongside Bruce and Bob Kulick and Frehley's Comet.

Great opportunity to see a legend in a small venue as cool as the Hi-Fi. Hats off to Chicago Farmer for opening the show with a good set that got the crowd into the mood. Robert and band wound their way through an impressive setlist, drawing from many periods over Robert's career. Setlist included some real favorites, such as Shades of Gray, Corpus Christi Bay, I Gotta Go, Gringo Honeymoon, and of course, The Road Goes On Forever. Equally impressive was a cover of the Todd Snider song, Play A Train Song. Set clocked in at just under two hours with encores.

The irony here is seeing Chicago Farmer twice within one week, right here in Indianapolis. Not that CF never plays here, but maybe not so frequently. Again, hats off to Chicago Farmer for another fine show.

Todd Snider was in great spirits, seemingly pretty energetic for the fans in Indianapolis. The crowd seemed a little smaller than the time he played here before, but still a good audience. Likewise, it sure seemed like Snider was in better physical form than last time. Sure enough the time before, he was a wreck. Tonight's show included many fan favorites, such as DB Cooper, Beer Run, Statiticians Blues, Alright Guy, Ballad of Devils Backbone Tavern, and more.Interestingly enough, I dont think he played a single song from his most recent three records, even though I have to plug his most recent release, Eastside Bulldog, as an outstanding record.

Another pay-to-play event, this time the horror convention for Days of The Dead. Gene Simmons made an appearance as did Elvira: Mistress of The Dark, J.J. French from Twisted Sister and former KISS guitarist and collaborator, Vinnie Vincent. Autograph line for Gene Simmons was a separate ticket. Kudos to the organizers of this event. Lines went very smoothly and the wait was minimized. Strictly meet and greet, no live performances.

Stars Align Tour JEFF BECK, PAUL RODGERS, Ann Wilson, Deborah Bonham
Ticket $20.00

As suspected, this show had a light attendance. The pavilion sold well, probably due in part to inexpensive lawn-to-seat upgrade options that were available. We upgraded from lawn for $20 extra dollars each and sat in the 14th row for what amounted to a very enjoyable show.

Paul Rodgers closed the show with a set that was split evenly between Free and Bad Company classics. His voice was very good throughout the show, staying true to the classic rock staples we've known for decades.

Jeff Beck was amazing, as was to be expected. His band consisted of Vinnie Colaiuta, who has played along side Sting and Frank Zappa. Playing bass guitar was Rhonda Smith, from Prince's band. Beck's band also featured cellist Vanessa Freebairn-Smithand for the occasional vocal, Jimmy Hall sang. Setlist spanned Beck's career, but focused more on recent decades. Of particular delight was his instrumental version of The Beatles classic, A Day In The Life.

It is difficult to imagine the thought process that went into Ann Wilson's current tour set and upcoming new release of all covers. The evening itself was the perfect set-up for Ann to perform classic Heart songs. However, as her new release is a covers album, Wilson gave the fans her version of many AOR rock classics that she isn't known for. Songs like Life In The Fast Lane or Won't Get Fooled Again are strange territory for someone as accomplished as Wilson. I wasn't alone. When it was time to grab another beer, I heard many fans discussing the set and obviously baffled by what they heard.

Superb shows from both Cyndi Lauper and Rod Stewart...Cyndi Lauper proving she's still got a great voice and a timeless collection of hits from the eighties. Rod Stewart proving he's still a master showman and still has the drive to perform a full tour of career spanning hits and classics. Ticket INR 750 / US$10.50

Today there are many small time touring acts that are strictly tribute bands. In most cases these would not be included here, unless there is some extraordinary exception. For example, I previously included the Australian Pink Floyd Experience, which has performed to millions of people around the globe. This is an authentic world-wide touring tribute to Pink Floyd, employing a variety of Pink Floyd support personnel and stage visuals. Not so incidentally APFE is approved by Pink Floyd. Very high quality show.

In this case, the exception is that the music of Queen is so universal that, while traveling in India, I found a tribute band in Bangalore, with all Indian musicians, performing the music of Queen. I couldnt resist the opportunity. The ticket price was INR750, which at the time was about $10.50 and included INR500 in food and beverage coupons. So essentially the show cost $3.50 in USD, because I planned to eat there anyway.

The band itself, called Fernandes Fusion, was not the typical 4 piece outfit that you might expect, but rather a 6 piece band, including 5 males and 1 female. If you do a little internet research, it appears they also do other tributes and weddings as well. The venue was packed with Queen fans from all over the world, visiting or living in Bangalore. The tribute versions of the songs performed were anywhere from mediochre to outstanding. Bohemian Rhapsody, I Want To Break Free, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Fat Bottom Girls were overwhelmingly fan favorites that night.

Never the less, it was a fun night of entertainment in a far away place.
