THE IRVING THEATRE
Indianapolis, Indiana

Opened in 1927

The Irving Theatre was built in the very early part of the 1900's. It was opened on December 3, 1913 by H.L. Whitehead of the Idle Hour Amusement Company. Over time, it has had different owners and undergone many physical changes of it's own. It was a once a 10 cent movie house before eventually falling on harder times, as an adult movie theatre in the 1970's called The Festival.

Today, it has been gutted of it's theatre chairs and much of the ceiling and walls are now exposed wood. The place has been dressed up meagerly, with strings of white party lights and a very strange old light fixture that hangs down in the middle of the venue. Many of the old theatre features remain, despite the age and disrepair, yet it has a certain charm that is all at once haunting and appealing, as if the walls can't wait to tell stories of its past.
