Originally built just before the stock market crash of 1929, the building was vacant until the end of WWII and then opened as a retail store. The Bowery Ballroom opened as a music venue in 1997 with a capacity of 550. The venue features a bar in the lower level, beneath the theatre floor, a main floor theatre and a balcony club.
