ARLINGTON THEATRE (closed)
1025 N Arlington Ave.
Indianapolis, Indiana

Opened in 1949

This 1949 Art Moderne style theater was opened by a independent operator in the Eastside neighborhood of Irvington, in Indianapolis. The location is just north of 10th street and Arlington Ave. The opening night program on October 6, 1949 was “You’re My Everything” starring Dan Dailey. All seating was on a single floor.

In 1953, the theater was renovated with an extension out the back of theater for the installation of the Cinemascope screen and the sound upgrade to four-track magnetic. The theater became a showcase for Walt Disney movies until the early Seventies when another theater began outbidding the Arlington for the Disney movies.

For a brief period around 1989-1991, the venue was used for concerts. Berrys Music was located next door with a selection of new and used music as well as instruments.

A handful of impressive shows were promoted here, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joe Satriani, George Lynch's Lynch Mob and original KISS guitarist, Ace Frehley.

Shortly after, the property was sold and rennovated. The sloping theatre floor was levelled and an ACE Hardware opened in the theatre's place.
